Today we did an experiment to look at surface tension. We put milk in a dish, and dropped some food colouring into it. We noticed that the food colouring floated on top of the milk. Then we put dish liquid on to a cotton bud. We dipped the cotton bud into the milk and watched magic happen. Here are some photo's.

Patterning
Korora are learning about patterns. Patterns appear in art, maths, and literacy. We see patterns in days of the week, months of the year. Your child should be able to talk to you about where a pattern repeats. Please bring patterns you find to your child's attention. We made patterns in class based on colour and shape. Look for the class displays. To help with spelling I would like children to build patterns of at least 3 parts, this helps building spelling patterns based on rhyme e.g. cat, mat, pat.

Welcome to 2018
Welcome to our new and existing parents to our blog. We are now the Korora (Little Blue Penguin) Learning Hub.
Your Home Contact Book has gone home on Monday. I will put ideas on the Learning Hub website on how you can use this book to help your child. You need to let me know when you want me to test your child as I will not be doing weekly testing of every child.

Safe Walking with Constable Jos
Constable Jos came to Room 4 as part of our Road Safety Programme. We covered safe walking. We learned that we need to walk on the fence side of the footpath, look out for sneaky driveways, take a step back from the kerb to look before crossing the road. Our poenm says "Stop, look, and listen before you cross the street, use your eyes, and use your ears, before you use your feet!"
Constable Jos also talked about bus safety. Please if your child uses the bus you wait on the side of the road they embark or disembark on, children have been taught not to move until the bus is at least two paddocks away because only then can they clearly see the road and listen to hear if traffic is coming.
