Supporting Ms Barrow and Mrs Schroder to buy Harold hay
Kaniere School had a muftil day to sponsor Ms Barrow and Mrs Schroder for the Polar Plunge at Karoro Beach on Sunday. Funds raised are going to the Life Education Trust. We think Harold needs more hay or perhaps some trees to eat!

Rocket Champions
Esther is our Queen for Week 2, and Sone the Princess. Will took out King of the Rockets with Liam close behind. Taylor and Elizabeth recorded personal bests, so well done to both of you!
Our Trip to the Library
We went to the Library with Room 5 to mark New Zealand Book Awards Week. Lauren, the Children's Librarian, read us 'Finding Monkey Moon' and 'Stripes or Spots'. We went on a treasure hunt around the library looking for clues to find Monkey Moon and decorated animals for the fashion parade in a mixture of spots and stripes.
Thank you so much to those parents who provided transport and to the library staff for hosting us.

Patsy Came For A Visit
On the last day of term Taylor brought her rabbit to school to show us. Pasty is a Flemish Giant rabbit. We all had a chance to give Pasty a pat. Taylor told us that Pasty can't eat lettuce but she loves carrots!

Cross Country 2016
We are extremely proud of our cross country champions, all those children who put one foot in front of the other to make it all the way around the circuit. Special congratulations go to Will, Liam, and Leon, who took out the Year 1 boys placings and Esther, Sone, and Taylor who took out the Year 1 girls places.

Word Rockets Week 5
Wow, our Word Writing Champions have been running hot! Our Queen for this week is Esther and Sone is her delightful princess. King for this week is Will and Liam is prince. We do have an increasing number of children are writing more words tan they have written before which is really pleasing to see. There must be lots of practise going on at home. Well done for achieving personal bests: Esther, Iziah, Liam, Luca, Summer F, Summer W, Taylor and Theo.

Lost teeth
Esther lost her tooth in class today. Well she didn't actually lose it, but it did fall out! So we decided to count how many teeth have fallen out in Room 4. Some children had no new teeth, others had four or five! When we added up all the lost teeth the tooth fairy has made 22 visits to children in Room 4.

King and Queen of the Rockets
Word Rockets are a test of how many words we can write from memory and quickly. We are given 10 minutes to write as many words as we can while Mrs Hickford prompts some words we can write word families, change the final sound, change the vowel to make new words., or write spelling words and other words we know. Things that help us write more words are: knowing the letter sounds, being able to quickly change first, middle and last sounds, being able to form our letters quickly and correctly. Words are counted only once and if a letter is reversed the word counts only if the reversal is does not make a different letter. So p/q and d/b are common confusions and words wont count if they are written the wrong way. others like 'c' and 's' the words will count.
Week 2 Queen is Esther, her consort is King Will. Courtiers for this week are Prince Theo and Princess Sone, well done. Next week I look forward to write all the personal bests into our blog as well. These are children who write more words than they a have written before.

Room 4 wrote some great stories about their mothers. Follow the link to read them. We also made fantastic Mother's Day cards to give Mum on her special day.
