Looking at new ways to make counting easier using pattern

Watch how Renny uses patterns to help her solve a counting problem

Wow I was amazed!

I was working with a reading group today and I asked what nectar tasted like. One person suggested honey, but no one knew that honey tastes sweet. Please talk to your children about the taste of food, beyond good or nice. Give them opportunities to experience different tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, spicy... We then talked about the word 'bloom' means. It is very important that we expose children to a wide variety of language and giving descriptions to experiences.

The Little Yellow Digger Came to School

Look out for the digger stories over the weekend

Maths Tasks

We have been trying challenging maths tasks. Children can solve these any way they like and they may have more than one answer. Here are two tasks we have looked at: Bears in the Cave Here are three caves. There are bears in each cave. There are twelve bears altogether. If there are 2 bears in the first cave, how many bears might be in each of the other caves? Cards Ari has 21 cards. Cam has two more cards than Ari. Ben has 3 less cards than Cam, and Dan has one less card than Ben. Eva has 3 more cards than Dan. How many cards does Eva have? They are challenging, but can be solved using a range of ideas. Let your child show you how they solved these problems. They may need some materials to help them.

ANZAC Celebrations

We had our remembrance service for ANZAC Day before we want on holiday. We learnt what ANZAC means, why we wear a poppy and how ANZAC biscuits came about. We looked on a map of the world to find out where Gallipoli is located.
