Doubles and halves
We have been learning about patterns of doubles to ten, and halves. We talked about doubles meaning getting a group the same size and half making our counters into two piles of exactly the same size. Cody is able to make the pattern of double three for six. Using the pattern he can show half of six is three.
Symmetrical Gingerbread
We made ginger bread with Mrs Smith. We iced them in a symmetrical pattern. Symmetrical patterns are the same on both sides. These are our results. Yum!!
Fireman Dan's Visit
Fireman Dan and a few of his friends, Craig, Jon, Peter and David, came to see us at Kaniere School. Their visit fitted in with our Disaster Unit, "What's the Plan Stan?". They taught us basic fire safety rules. After talking in class we realised that not everyone knew where their safe meeting place was. We had talked about this when discussing earthquakes. Has your family got a safe meeting place?

Fruit or Vegetable
What makes a fruit a fruit and a vegetable a vegetable? How do we tell the difference? Is it colour? Is it taste? Is it where it grows?
What is a tomato?
What is pumpkin?
How about beans, strawberries, or bananas?
Which are fruit and which are vegetables?

Reports for Term 3 and Home work
These went home today. Please check your child'd bag. .If I haven't reported on your child this term I will in Term 4. It is certainly pleasing to see the progress they have made.
I would also like to apologise for the irregular appearance of hime work over the last two weeks. With Tattybogle practices and not being in the classroom last two Frida's I haven't been getting the formal testing completed. But rest assured we have been making progress. I have decided to leave testing until next term, apart from word rockets. there will continue to be reading every night until the end of term.

Happy Fathers Day!
What a busy day. First we had assembly and we sang one of our Tattybogle songs. We are all so looking forward to the performance. We can start counting down the sleeps. There will be a newsletter about costumes on Monday.
Because we were so busy today with our special surprises for you know who we did not get testing done today. So we will do Word Rockets on Monday and just keep the same words for next week's spelling.
Enjoy Sunday with your family!

Supporting Ms Barrow and Mrs Schroder to buy Harold hay
Kaniere School had a muftil day to sponsor Ms Barrow and Mrs Schroder for the Polar Plunge at Karoro Beach on Sunday. Funds raised are going to the Life Education Trust. We think Harold needs more hay or perhaps some trees to eat!

Lost teeth
Esther lost her tooth in class today. Well she didn't actually lose it, but it did fall out! So we decided to count how many teeth have fallen out in Room 4. Some children had no new teeth, others had four or five! When we added up all the lost teeth the tooth fairy has made 22 visits to children in Room 4.
Word Rockets Week 3
King of the Rockets last week was Liam, and the trusty Prince, Will. We have a Queen. Queen Sone has the beautiful Princess Elizabeth at her side. Both Victor and Elizabeth had personal best. Well done to all those who gave it their best effort.

King and Queen of the Rockets
Word Rockets are a test of how many words we can write from memory and quickly. We are given 10 minutes to write as many words as we can while Mrs Hickford prompts some words we can write word families, change the final sound, change the vowel to make new words., or write spelling words and other words we know. Things that help us write more words are: knowing the letter sounds, being able to quickly change first, middle and last sounds, being able to form our letters quickly and correctly. Words are counted only once and if a letter is reversed the word counts only if the reversal is does not make a different letter. So p/q and d/b are common confusions and words wont count if they are written the wrong way. others like 'c' and 's' the words will count.
Week 2 Queen is Esther, her consort is King Will. Courtiers for this week are Prince Theo and Princess Sone, well done. Next week I look forward to write all the personal bests into our blog as well. These are children who write more words than they a have written before.

Learning about patterns
In Maths we are learning about patterns. Today we discussed how many items were in a pattern. If the pattern goes triangle, circle, triangle, circle there are two items in the pattern, a triangle and a circle. We looked for patterns in the days of the week, and months of the year. Patterns are everywhere. Tell me about your child finding a pattern.
Remember when we start looking Maths is everywhere! Can you find the hidden maths in books?
